Coreless vs brushed micro motors for 1kg sumo, real tradeoffs

<r>Rebuilding the sumo bot after the loss (other thread). One question I keep going back and forth on: brushed micro motors (cheap, replaceable) vs coreless (more torque per amp, lighter, expensive).<br/>
<br/>
Numbers I'm seeing:

Sumo bot post-mortem, why we lost in semis

<r>Just back from a regional college sumo competition. Made it to semis pero nag-lose sa nakakahirap na rounds. Sharing what failed kasi maraming useful lessons.<br/>

Re: 🤖 Circuitrocks Supports IECEP QCU Robotics Wars 2026 — Empowering Future Robotics Engineers

Late na ako pero hindi pa late: support sa RoboWars sa UP-NCR! Yung circuitrocks parating reliable sponsor for these events. Last year nag-set up din kami ng team, yung sumo arena setup hardcore.

Sino mag-aattend ng coming year edition? Bring na ko ng team.

Re: 🚀 Circuitrocks Sponsors SQUEEZE 2.8 at UP Circuit

Attending kami nito! Yung UP Circuit consistently good organizers pa naman. Sino dito sa forum balak attend? Pwede magkita-kita.

Yung last year SQUEEZE, may table na tinatakbo ng circuitrocks din ba? Nag-stop ako sa booth nila for components.

HC-SR04 max practical range outdoors — ano experience niyo?

<t>Datasheet ng HC-SR04 sabi 4 meters max range, lab conditions yan I assume. For our outdoor obstacle course (sumo bot territory border detection), kelangan ko ng reliable detection at 2 meters minimum.<br/>

May nag-test na ba ng HC-SR04 sa real outdoor conditions? Wind, surfaces of different ...

JM here, robotics captain

3rd year competing, sumo bots and line followers mostly. Posting late kasi yan yung work hours namin sa robotics lab. Sa veterans dito, daming napupulot. Sa mga junior na kasama ko sa lab, redirect ko sila dito kapag may tanong na hindi ko alam yung sagot.

Re: Servo motor keeps jittering even at rest — 4 things I check before blaming the servo

<r>Confirmed yung decoupling cap fix from competition robotics experience. Niligtas niyan yung line-follower namin last season, yung dalawang MG90s sa front jumitter nonstop, halos sumuko na ako bago ako naglagay ng 220µF + 0.1µF across each servo's power input. Suddenly stable.<br/>

Re: ESP32 vs Pi Pico W for IoT thesis — which is more reliable for 24/7 data logging?

<r>Sa robotics team namin, ESP32 ginagamit for telemetry, 4 hours of continuous bot ops, sends IMU + battery data every 100ms over WiFi. Crash rate near zero, pero kasi maikli yung sessions namin, hindi yan yung deployment scenario na tinatanong mo.<br/>

PWM frequency tweak on Arduino Uno for sumo bot — register hacking?

<r>Bumubuo ng 1kg sumo bot for inter-college comp soon. Default Arduino <CODE><s>
</s>analogWrite()<e>
</e></CODE> runs PWM at around 490Hz on most pins, kaya may audible whine yung motors namin. More importantly, hindi maganda ang ramp-up ng speed.<br/>
