After 3 years of IoT consulting, here is the deployment checklist I run before every sensor goes outside.

Pre-deployment (workshop):

• Burn-in 24 hours, monitor for stuck values or crashes
• Calibrate against reference instrument (Fluke for temp, certified hygrometer for humidity)
• Document MAC address, location, install date in tracking sheet
• Photograph wiring before sealing enclosure

At install site:

• Test WiFi signal at exact mount location with phone hotspot, not just nearby
• Confirm power source is on a non-trip-protected circuit (UPS-backed ideal)
• Mount sensor with at least 50cm clearance from surfaces that radiate heat or cold
• Verify first reading lands in dashboard before leaving site

Post-install:

• Check 24h of data for anomalies (sensor settling, room thermal lag)
• Set alert thresholds based on observed range, not theoretical
• Schedule 6-month battery/desiccant check
