Tinanong ako ng kapatid ng kaibigan kung paano daw mag-basa ng schematic. Anak niya, 2nd year EE, daw confused. Realized maraming beginner ang nag-build ng circuits without really understanding the symbol system.

Quick basics, hindi exhaustive:

Lines = wires. Crossing without dot = no connection. With dot = soldered together.

Common symbols you'll see often:
  • Resistor, zigzag (US style) or rectangle (EU style)
  • Capacitor, two parallel lines (non-polar) or one line + curve (polarized, watch yung + side)
  • LED, triangle pointing to a line, with two arrows escaping
  • Diode, same triangle pointing to a line, no arrows
  • Transistor, circle with three legs, arrow shows current direction
  • Ground, horizontal lines getting smaller (chassis ground) or just a triangle
Tip noong nasa school pa ako: redraw the schematic by hand once. Pinapatibay yung muscle memory. Pag tinitignan mo lang, nakakalimutan agad. Pag dinrowing mo, naka-burn na sa utak.

Pang-bilin sa mga beginners: lahat ng pro engineers nagsimula sa unang schematic na hindi nila kayang basahin. Just keep practicing.
