Sumusubok akong gawing waterproof yung outdoor IoT projects. Sun, rain, occasional dirt. Both PETG and ABS rated for outdoor, ang benta ng filament suppliers.
What I've found so far:
PETG: easier to print, slightly more flexible (good for impacts), worse UV resistance over months
ABS: tougher, better UV, harder to print (warping, fumes need ventilation)
Real-world experience po, sino dito may enclosure na nakaka-1+ year outdoor? Anong filament gamit niyo? Anong nangyari pagkatapos ng panahon, yellowed pa rin? Cracked? Held up?
Bonus question: anyone tried ASA? Mas mahal pero supposedly best for outdoor.
Field experience from deploying outdoor enclosures (sun-exposed, full PH conditions) for ~2 years now:
PETG yellowed visibly after 8-10 months direct sun. Still functional, still rigid, just hindi maganda. ABS has held up much better, almost no visible UV degradation after 2 years on yung mga earlier units.
Pero ABS print quality kelangan really tuned. Walang enclosure heater = warping, especially para sa larger cases. We ended up using PETG for our smaller enclosures and ABS for the larger ones (where warping is more critical).
For your specific outdoor use case, may another option na hindi pa nababanggit: ASA. Same family as ABS pero with much better UV resistance built into yung formulation. Mas mahal pero for outdoor gear na tatagal ng 5+ years, worth it.
Also worth noting: paint your enclosures with UV-resistant paint (any spray paint marked 'outdoor / UV resistant' works). Cheap upgrade na dumadagdag ng 1-2 years sa life ng even basic PLA prints.
